OpenBVE Multiplayer Extension

Welcome to the OpenBVE Multiplayer Extension page. Here you will find downloads on the new OpenBVE Multiplayer Extension software. OpenBVE ME is obviously a Multiplayer Extension, injected into OpenBVE allowing for network play, between users. In the future this project will have a proper name, and will aim to bring a network interface to OpenBVE.

OpenBVE ME works by an injection of a chat client into OpenBVE. This chat client is the core of the multiplayer system, where it passes textual data between the client and the server. Although this may be inefficient it is sufficient enough to create external signalling systems, and locate the positions of each player.

Future prospects for the program:

  • A more fast and stable network interface
  • Further integration with OpenBVE itself
  • A new observation client, for dispatchers

Some other wishes which may or may not be fufilled:

  • Ability to see the train ahead of you, as a human operator as opposed to the AI.
  • Multiple related routes on a single server. (Express and Local)
  • Time syncronization
  • In game signalling systems networked
  • Live map system for dispatchers

Instructions for the Compiled Client:

Once you have downloaded the file, (make sure you save as...) Then copy and paste the file and put it into your OpenBVE directory. Then run the file, put in a server IP and username.
Please take note, that the first player in slot 1, MUST be the first one to leave. The second player in slot 2 must be the second to leave, and etc. You are to ignore the in game signalling systems, and continue on using the external signalling system.

Enjoy!
